Face-to-Face Education

Whether you are in school, just starting out, or a veteran of this trade, being a professional technician takes a lot of hard work, time, and most of all training. A comprehensive knowledge of motors will help you diagnose issues and failures faster and more accurately, select the correct replacement motor the first time, and install the replacement motor to not only operate properly but provide years of safe and reliable operation. To help you gain this valuable knowledge, we provide over 700 in-class training events annually in the US, Mexico and Canada. These classes are provided by motor professionals with a combined experience of over 300 years in the motor and HVAC industries.

Motor Mastery University classes are NATE® recognized. All NATE certified technicians will receive a 1-hour credit for each class hour toward recertification in all of the forced air disciplines in which they are currently certified.

ECM Training

ECM Training

Electronically Commutated Motors (ECMs) are found in outdoor fan and indoor blower applications in residential and light commercial HVAC systems. These direct drive Fractional Horsepower (FHP) motors include constant torque, constant speed and constant airflow. They are often referred to as variable speed motors.

ECMs were introduced to the HVAC industry in 1987 yet they are still widely misunderstood, regularly misdiagnosed and typically thought of as very complex. ECMs are an established and growing technology in HVAC. Knowledge of this technology is crucial for a successful career in the HVAC industry.

In-Class Training

ECM training classes include one or more of the following topics:

  • Comprehend the basics of ECM technology

  • Explain ECM efficiency

  • Utilize the installation requirements of ECM driven systems

  • Convey how ECM technology benefits HVAC systems

  • Learn how to diagnose and replace ECM

  • Learn how ECM work against static pressure and their limitations

  • Learn how to diagnose and solve air flow issues

  • Learn how to retrofit/upgrade induction motors with ECM

  • Introduction to new technologies

The knowledge gained from ECM training will help all HVAC professionals gain the confidence and competence needed to install ECM driven systems to operate at peak performance and provide maximum comfort, as well as diagnose and service these systems if needed. The biggest advantage of this course is that it comes directly from the leading manufacturer of ECM motors in residential and light commercial HVAC and commercial refrigeration applications. From theory to practical knowledge, it’s all here.

Induction Motor Training

Induction motors include shaded pole, permanent split capacitor (PSC), split phase and three phase. These motors are built in fractional horsepower (FHP) ratings for use in residential and light commercial HVAC and integral horsepower (IHP) ratings for use in commercial and industrial applications and capacitors.

Induction motors are the backbone of our industry and will be for years to come. This motor technology is over 100 years old and yet today, technicians still struggle with diagnostics, selecting the correct replacement and installation. A good foundation of induction motor theory is crucial for a successful career in the HVAC industry.

In-Class Training

Induction motor training classes include one or more of the following topics:

  • Identify and understand the basic components of induction motors

  • Understand the operation of induction motors

  • Learn how to diagnose and replace induction motors

  • Learn how induction motors work against static pressure and their limitations

  • Learn how to diagnose and solve airflow issues

  • Motor categories covered:

    • FHP

    • Shaded Pole, PSC, Split Phase

    • Evaporator and condensing fan motors

    • Draft motors

    • IHP

    • Three phase

  • Identify and understand the basics of capacitors

  • Learn how to diagnose and replace capacitors

  • Introduction to new technologies

The knowledge gained in this course will help all HVAC professionals gain the confidence and competence needed to adjust the output of induction motors for proper airflow as well as diagnose and service these systems if needed. The biggest advantage of this course is that it comes directly from the largest manufacturer of induction motors used in HVAC, commercial refrigeration and commercial industrial applications for the last 50 years. From theory to practical knowledge, it’s all here.
