FER Resource Center
Stay ahead of 2019 DOE compliance
In 2019, new fan energy regulations from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will go into effect. What are these new rules all about? The fan energy experts at Regal have gathered essential resources to help OEMs, contractors and customers understand the new regulations and explain what it will take to ensure compliance. In the weeks ahead, this page will house a library of resources, interactive tools, industry informational videos, as well as specifications on Genteq motors.
What is the Fan Energy Rating (FER) all about?
In 2014, the DOE issued a new regulation to reduce energy consumption in furnace fans, giving manufacturers a 2019 deadline to comply with the regulations and disclose the fan energy ratings of their equipment. The new maximum fan energy ratings will reduce energy consumption in furnaces — which account for up to 10 percent of a home’s annual energy costs — by approximately 40 percent over 30 years. This is equivalent to 500 billion kilowatt-hours and a 180 million metric ton CO2 emissions reduction — benefiting companies, consumers and the environment.
Meet your compliance goals with Regal’s Genteq products
Regal has become expert in FER compliance by redesigning our products to meet the new standards, including DEC Star® blower assemblies and EON® motors, as well as a new electronically commutated motor (ECM) to provide FER compliance for our entry-level fans. In the process, we’ve gathered resources here to help you understand the regulations via lists of compliance steps to implement, and created a guide to help you evaluate available Genteq motors and determine which product will meet your desired tier based on price and performance
